Pastor Derrick Richardson
Derrick Richardson is the pastor of Community Abundant Life Church, Inc. in Oklahoma City, OK. He answered his call to the ministry from the Lord on February 11th, 1979 and preached his first sermon on March 11th, 1979 in Los Angeles, CA.
He was led to start this non-denominational church in February 2003. It is the mission of Community Abundant Life Church to be active in the community by providing ministries and tackling important issues such as, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, Elder Care, After School Care, Mentoring and much more.
In April 2001, Reverend Richardson founded, Community Abundant Life Ministries, Inc. (C.A.L.M., Inc.). This non-profit organization was established to provide meaningful programs in the community. C.A.L.M., Inc. has provided “Respite and Elder Care” in the northeast quadrant of Oklahoma City, along with scholarships and food to the community.
Prior to being led to start Community Abundant Life Church, Rev. Richardson served as senior pastor at Collins Community A.M.E. Church and Sherman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Spencer, Oklahoma. He also served as the Assistant to the Pastor at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Reverend Richardson has been preaching the gospel, for over forty years. During this time, he has conducted revivals, held workshops, and served as youth leader and assistant pastor.
Reverend Richardson is a native of Los Angeles, CA. In October of 1997, he accepted employment with a company in Oklahoma City and left the city of the angels and earthquakes to come to the city of friendly people and tornados. Since coming to Oklahoma, he has been very active in the community. He is a former member of the Executive Council of The Jim Thorpe Association, AAFCAP (African American Faith Community for Aids Prevention), New Covenant Fellowship, Marcus Garvey Leadership Academy Advisory Council and C.A.R.E. In 1999, he received the Jim Thorpe Award for his commitment to the community.
He attended California State University at Long Beach and California State University at Los Angeles where he majored in Mathematics. He is married to LaShawn Richardson and they have six children and seventeen grandchildren.
